“This is not one of those games where I thought we didn't give a good effort,” says BSU head coach Ronny Thompson. “We had them on their heels in the second half, but just could not get over the hump.”
“Dyer played a tremendous game,” Thompson said. “We were just getting to him too slowly in the first half and they did a good job of finding him. He's a big, strong kid and after he hit his first two or three shots, he had it going.”
Ahmaad Cook, who started his second consecutive game, drained a three-pointer of his own on the next BSU possession to pull the Cardinals within 34-32 at the 16:41 mark.
ISU's Osiris Eldridge stopped the run with a long-range bomb, before Dom Johnson also drilled a three less than four minutes later to cap a 7-0 Redbirds' run to push the lead to 44-32.
Cook drilled a three-pointer at the 7:09 mark to pull the Cardinals to within 50-49, but a Dyer hook shot on the next possession ignited a 10-0
Stovall scored a team-high 18 points in 36 minutes, plus handed out seven assists and grabbed three steals to lead
Newell finished with 13 points and five rebounds, while Rollin grabbed nine boards.
Dyer paced four Redbirds in double figures with a career-high 29 points.
Ball State played without the services of its leading scorer -- senior Skip Mills -- for the second straight game. Mills was diagnosed with a concussion Monday. He did dress for Saturday's contest at ISU, but did not play.
