Melvin Goins Scores 17; Cardinals Suffer Loss At ISU
December 09, 2007 | Men's Basketball
“Melvin has been playing well the last three games,” said first-year head coach Billy Taylor. “He is finishing better around the rim and getting to the free throw line.”
The two teams battled through a back-and-forth first half, before a three-point play from ISU's Jay Tunnell put the Sycamores ahead 24-20 at the intermission.
"Tonight was a tough, defensive battle,”
Redshirt freshman Rashaun McLemore scored 12 seconds into the second half, while Goins connected 30 seconds later to tie the game at 24, but Tunnell scored on back-to-back possessions to push ISU into a lead it would never relinquish.
“It is frustrating,”
McLemore, who started his second straight contest, scored nine points in 22 minutes.
Freshman Malik Perry added eight points and five rebounds, while junior Laron Frazier finished with six points.
ISU's Marco Stinson led all scorers with 18 points, while Tunnell finished with 16.
