Aiello Earns Soccerbuzz All-Region Accolades

MUNCIE, Ind. ? Ball State junior midfielder Annie Aiello (Granger, Ind./Penn) was named Third Team All-Great Lakes Region by Soccerbuzz on Thursday afternoon. Aiello is one of just two players from the Mid-American Conference to receive All-Region honors this season and she becomes just the third Cardinal to be recognized regionally by Soccerbuzz.

“This is a very deserving honor for Annie as her consistent play and contributions were pivotal to our success this season,” head coach Michelle Salmon said. “Anytime you have a player recognized in the region, it is a testament to how great our team was this year.”

Aiello, a First Team All-MAC selection, help guide the Cardinals to their second straight MAC regular season championship this season as Ball State finished with a 13-5-2 overall record. She spearheaded the Cardinals' midfield this season that was one of the strongest units in the entire conference.

She finished the season tied for fourth on the team in scoring with 10 points, all of which game from five goals. She scored all five of her goals from the penalty spot, which were the most by any player in the MAC this season. Her five penalty kick goals are a single season record for Ball State and she also has scored more goals from the penalty spot than any other Cardinal in program history.

Aiello becomes the third straight Cardinal to be recognized by Soccerbuzz as she joins former Cardinal standouts Amy Holst and Krista Mitts who were honored in 2006 and 2005, respectively. She is joined on the Third Team by Toledo forward Molly Cornwell this season as representatives from the MAC.
