Soccer Highlights MAC Postseason Awards

Ball State also placed five players on the All-MAC Second Team with junior forward Emily Rein (Cincinnati, Ohio/Oak Hills), junior midfielder Katelyn Alexander (Fort Wayne, Ind./Carroll), senior defender Angie Heyer (Zanesville, Ind./Zanesville), junior defender Jen Vilkoski (Hamilton, Ohio/Fairfield) and junior goalkeeper Rachael Murphy (Zionsville, Ind./Zionsville) earning the accolades.
Rein leads the Cardinals in scoring for the third straight season as she has tallied 17 points on the strength of six goals and five assists. She is tied for the team lead with three game-winning goals, including the clinchers against MAC foes Central Michigan,
Heyer and Vilkoski have been the anchors to the Cardinals' defense which led the MAC in fewest goals allowed at just 13 goals against. The Cardinals also limited MAC opponents to a MAC-record five goals against during the conference season with both Heyer and Vilkoski leading the charge.
Murphy has been the stalwart in goal for the Cardinals as she posted a MAC-low 0.56 goals against average on the season. She posted a program-record 0.43 goals against average against MAC opponents this season. She recorded nine shutouts this season, including a program-record seven straight shutouts. Her shutout streak of 664:28 is the longest such streak in program history.

Salmon was named MAC Coach of the Year for the second straight season as she has guided the Cardinals to a 13-5-1 record so far this season and a 9-1-1 mark in MAC play. Salmon becomes just the third coach in MAC history to win back-to-back Coach of the Year honors and the first Cardinal coach to accomplish the feat. She has accumulated a 26-9-4 (.740) record in her two seasons, including a 17-3-2 (.820) mark in MAC action.
“I am blessed to work with such a great team and a great group of student-athletes,” Salmon said. “Working with this team has not only made me a better coach, but it has made me a better person as well.”
The top seeded Cardinals host the 2007 MAC Tournament this weekend as they face fourth seeded Bowling Green Friday at 2 p.m. at the BSU Soccer Field in the second semifinal of the day. Second seeded Toledo and third seeded Northern Illinois meet at 11 a.m. at the BSU Soccer Field in semifinal number one.
