MUNCIE, Ind. -- Kristtini Cain (Marion, Ind./Marion H.S.) and Katie Windlan (Anderson, Ind./Highland H.S.) have each signed a national letter of intent to attend Ball State University and compete for the women's golf team, according to Ball State head coach Katherine Mowat.
“By having such a young team this season, I am truly excited to sign both Kristtini and Katie,” Mowat said. “They both have quality experience and can contribute immediately.”
Cain, a 10-time winner on the Indiana Mt. Dew Junior Tour, placed first at the North Central Conference high school meet last season with a seven-under par and course-record score of 66. She tied for sixth at the state meet with consecutive rounds of 75, after earning medalist honors at sectional.
In addition, Cain was the 2007 Westfield Junior PGA Championship Qualifier and a two-time Indiana Masters Tour Champion.
“Kristtini is a very hard worker with a tremendous attitude,” Mowat said. “She has had success on the golf course at a high level against proven junior players. She can help us right away.”
Windlan will join her sister Sarah, who currently is a junior at Ball State, in the Cardinals' program. Her high school team's Most Valuable Player, Windlan earned medalist honors in 11 of 14 matches as a senior. She registered five top-three finishes last summer on the Indiana Mt. Dew Junior Tour.
A three-time qualifier for the Indiana High School Athletic Association State Tournament, Windlan is also a member of the swimming and diving team at Highland. She is the first athlete in Highland history to advance to the state competition in two sports.
“I am looking forward to coaching sisters,” Mowat said. “Katie has many of the same qualities of her sister, Sarah. She is an athletic and disciplined golfer. I am excited to see her develop at the Division I level.”
