Women's Tennis Concludes Action at Queen City Invite

CINCINNATI, Ohio - The Ball State University women's tennis team competed at the Queen City Invitational hosted by the University of Cincinnati (Oct. 5-7).
In singles action sophomore Sophie Quist (Australia/Ascham) defeated Alexandra Aitnikova of Eastern Kentucky, 6-4, 3-6, 6-4 to advance to the semifinal round of draw one. Quist later lost to Madeleine Hakansson of Kennesaw State, 6-1, 6-2. Senior Haly Calderwood (Sydney, Australia/Danebank) won in three sets over Cincinnati's Jenn Keiner, 2-6, 6-0, 6-3 in draw three.
Jennifer Pollack (Memphis, Tenn./White Station) advanced to the championship match of the draw three consolation bracket. Pollack captured a 3-6, 6-1, 10-5 win over Alyssa Carlson of Akron. Pollack then earned a 6-0, 6-7, 10-5 victory over Paula Takara of Kennesaw State. Pollack dropped the final match on Sunday afternoon to Jenn Keiner of Cincinnati, 4-6, 6-4, 10-5.
Katherin Rist (Leawood, Kan./Blue Valley North) won the final round of the consolation bracket in draw four with defeats over Lindsay Whalen of Kennesaw State (6-0, 6-2), Laura Hemlepp of Akron (6-2, 6-3) and in the finals over Jenna Wright of Kennesaw State (6-0, 6-0). Hayley Hall (Muncie, Ind./Delta) defeated Tifanie Treece of Xavier, 6-2, 0-6, 6-4.
Georgina Thomson (Sydney, Australia/St. Magaret's Anlican Girl's School) tallied a 6-3, 6-2 win over Tanyaradzha Gombera of Akron in consolation action.
In doubles, Pollack and Hall defeated Xavier's twosome of Pleiman and Kinnard, 8-0 in draw two while Quist and Calderwood won their first match over Kennesaw State's Ammann and Hakeansson, 8-6 in draw one.
Women's tennis returns to action as they host the Ball State Fall Tournament (Oct. 19-20).
