After the teams battled to a 16-16 tie in the opening game, Breivogel came to life, smashing a kill and adding two service aces as
NIU managed to draw within two points at 28-26, but kills from Breivogel on two of the next three plays ended the set 30-27 in favor of the Cardinals.
The Huskies scored the first three points of the second stanza, only to see the Cardinals go on a 13-3 run to pull ahead 13-6. The Huskies did not get closer than five points the rest of the game, falling 30-23 on a kill from BSU's Kakatolis.
After the 10-minute break,
The fifth and deciding game saw the teams play to a 5-5 tie before a BSU ball handling error and a kill from NIU's Laura Baetzel put the guests ahead 7-5. The Huskies maintained an 8-6 advantage at the court switch and rallied off seven of the final 10 points to win the game 15-9.

Overall, NIU held a .130 (54-29-192) to .119 (67-43-202) attacking advantage, while out-blocking the Cardinals 15.5 to 9.5. Both teams scored five service aces, while BSU out-dug the Huskies 89 to 79.
