Women's Tennis Ends Day One of Action in Memphis

MEMPHIS, Tenn. - The Ball State University women's tennis team ended its first day of action at the Memphis Invitational on Friday night.
Haly Calderwood earned a 6-2, 6-2 victory over Anne Pennington of Murray State in first round action before losing to Marija Djuran of Western Kentucky, 6-4, 6-1. Sophie Quist garnered two victories after defeating Partres Cortez of Arkansas-Little Rock, 6-2, 6-4 and Angela McGahee of Murray State, 7-5, 6-1.
In two singles Hayley Hall captured a 6-0, 6-1 win over Carrie True of Western Kentucky. Hall went on to win her second round match over Marjorie Ondeck of Memphis, 1-6, 6-4, 10-3. Georgina Thomson also won in division two singles after defeating Martina Ce' of Southern Illinois, 7-5, 6-1.
Jennifer Pollack won in three singles after posting a 6-4, 6-2 win over Adriana Alvarez of Murray State. Pollack advanced to the semifinals with a win over Agata Skorupska, 6-1, 6-0. Emma Retter advanced to the semifinals after posting a 6-0, 6-0 victory over Anne Tilton of Southern Illinois.
In doubles action Quist and Thomson defeated Tennessee Tech duo Woodcock and Pachonh by a score of 8-5. Quist and Thomson advanced to the semifinals after defeating Bourgeon and Gomez-Jordana of Arkansa Little Rock, 8-1.
Katherine Rist and Rachel Surowiec defeated Zafir and Brown of Memphis, 8-2 in two doubles.
Ball State continues fall play in Memphis on Saturday.
