Women's Tennis Completes First Day of Action at Ball State Invitational

MUNCIE, Ind. -- The Ball State University women's tennis team continued its fall season after completing its first day of action at the BSU Invitational on Friday evening at Cardinal Creek Tennis Center.
In singles action Ball State's Haly Calderwood (Newington, Austrailia/Danebank) advanced to the semifinals after defeating Kari Kastenholz of Wisconsin-Milwaukee 7-5, 6-0 and Allysa Detroy of Dayton, 6-3, 7-6 (10-8). Emma Retter (Winchester, England/Peter Symonds College) will play in the semifinals for BSU after earning victories over Miles from Wright State 6-1, 6-0 and Linda Jirouskova from Miami, 6-2, 4-6, (10-5). Katherin Rist (Leawood, Kansas/Blue Valley North) notched two wins for the Cardinals after defeating Wisconsin-Milwaukee's Traci Litscher and Butler's Valerie Vinluan 6-0, 6-1.
Ball State cleaned house in doubles play winning all three of its matches. The duo of Calderwood and Christine Stromberg (Rollingmeadows, Ill./Fremd) pulled off the 8-1 win over Kastenholz and Ashley Clark of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. The twosome of Jennifer Pollack (Memphis, Tenn./White Station) and Polina Askerko (Moskow, Russia) managed to pick up the 9-7 victory over Charlotte Gibbons and Kristin Chamberlain of Cleveland State. Retter and Rist rounded out doubles action after defeating Janek and Rang of IPFW, 8-4.
The Ball State Invitational will continue on Saturday (Sept. 30) with doubles play beginning at 8:30 am.
