Women's Golf Adds International Recruit In O'Connor
June 02, 2006 | Women's Golf
MUNCIE, Ind. -- Kirsty O'Connor (Burnley, Lancashire, U.K./Habergham H.S.) has signed a National Letter of Intent to attend Ball State University and compete for the women's golf program, according to BSU head coach Katherine Mowat.
"I am very excited to have Kirsty come to Ball State and to have the opportunity to coach her for four years," Mowat said. "She has an impressive record, a proven swing and she has shown she can compete at this level. Kirsty made five visits to the United States to look at schools, so we are excited she chose Ball State. She will bring a lot to our program."
O'Connor will join the BSU program after graduating from Habergham High School in England with a 4.0 grade-point average. A member of the Welsh U 18 International Squad, O'Connor was an English School's National Finalist in 2005 and will compete in the 2006 event. She was also a national age-group finalist in both 2003 and 2002.
O'Connor, who earned both all-county and all-state honors, was runner-up at the 2004 National Club Champions Cup at the Belfry. The event attracted 400 initial entrants, before national qualifying rounds slimmed the field to eight who competed at the Belfry.
O'Connor, who is active in her high school in both academics and performing arts, owns a career-low round of 70. In 11 top-level events she has played in the U.K, she has been the medalist four times and finished in the top 10 in 10 events.
