Women's Tennis Shuts Out Northern Illinois
April 07, 2006 | Women's Tennis
With Northern Illinois competing with only four players, only two of the doubles matches and four of the singles matches were played. Ball State won by default at No. 3 doubles and No. 5 and 6 singles due to the lack of NIU players.
At No. 1 doubles, Jessica Thompson and Haly Calderwood took down the visiting Huskies' Jenny Edner and Doris Delgadillo 8-6. Meanwhile the No. 2 tandem of Stephanie Farrar and Katie Owens slid past NIU's Chrissy Nagel and Megan Brooks 8-5.
In singles action, all four Cardinal players came out victorious over their Huskie opponents. Jennifer Pollack was the first to take down Delgadillo at the No. 2 position. Pollack only gave up one game in a 6-1, 6-0 decision. The No. 4 match was the second to conclude after Owens defeated Nagel 6-3, 6-0. Thompson then finished off her opponent -- Edner -- 6-2, 2-6 (10-6) -- at the No. 1 slot. Lastly, Calderwood added another notch to the win column when she came out on top of a 6-7 (6), 6-3 (10-6) decision over Brooks at No. 3.
The Cardinals host their final home match next Saturday when MAC foe Miami visits Muncie at 1 p.m.
