Katie Sundberg Finishes Sixth; Women's Golf Third At MAC Championship

The 72-hole tournament marked Ball State's first top three finish in league play, while four Cardinals finished in the top 20. Junior Kallie Harrison was named to the All-MAC Second Team.
"We had a good tournament," said BSU head coach Katherine Mowat. "With our low score today only a 76, we knew we had to go lower in order to finish second. Katie hit the ball perfectly all day, but unfortunately one bad drive led to one bad hole. It was a fun tournament and shows how far our program has come."
On Friday, it was seniors Julie Harder and Carmen Bodine, who each fired a 75 on day one, to set the tone for the BSU women's golf team.
In Saturday's third round, it was Sundberg who followed. Sundberg posted a one-under par round of 71 to move into a tie for fifth place individually. The 71 is a Ball State school record and career-low mark for Sundberg.
As a team, the Cardinals fired a rounds of 309-307-303-311 to move into second place entering Sunday's final 18 holes, before finishing the tournament third.
Kent State captured its eighth consecutive conference title with a score of 1116. Toledo finished second with a score of 1226 to edge BSU's 1230 total by just four strokes.
Four Cardinals finished in the top 20 at the event. In addition to Sundberg -- who was the 2005 MAC medalist -- tying for sixth at 77-76-71-76, Harder's 75-77-77-79 was good for 13th. Bodine managed rounds of 77-75-81-77 to tie for 15th, while Harrison rebounded from an opening round 80 with sores of 79-75-79 to tie for 18th. Amber Uphaus posted rounds of 80-81-80-81 to tie for 31st overall.
