Women's Tennis Ends Season at MAC Tournament
April 28, 2006 | Women's Tennis
The sixth-seeded Cardinals were victorious at No. 2 doubles as Katie Owens and Stephanie Farrar pushed past Remy Swain and Maura Trauernicht with an 8-5 score. The third-seeded Redhawks picked up wins at the No. 1 and No. 3 doubles positions to earn the eventual doubles point and take a 1-0 advantage into singles.
Jessica Thompson put a stamp on her First Team All-MAC selection by posting the Cardinals' lone singles win, an easy 6-2, 6-2 thumping of Katrina Lomidze at the No. 1 slot. The Redhawks went up 2-0 with Leda Pesatova's two-set win at the No. 2 position and secured their third point with a two-set verdict at No. 6. Miami earned its fourth and final point with Kelly Douple's 6-4, 6-3 win at the No. 4 slot.
"Our girls should be proud of their effort and spirit today," Ball State head coach Kathy Bull said. "We fought a little harder today than we did when we played Miami a few weeks ago. The match was much closer than the final score."
Ball State concludes its 2006 campaign with a 9-12 overall mark, while going 3-5 in MAC play.
