April 25, 2006 | Field Hockey
"These two players will be great additions to the team because they bring in great experience as well as great knowledge of the game," Payne says.
Maura Sawicki (Sunset Hills, Mo./Nerinx)
A three-year letterwinner under coach Nancy Milward at Nerinx, Sawicki totaled 13 goals and 10 assists to lead her squad to a 14-6-2 record as team captain during her senior season. Sawicki, a senior all-star participant, earned second team all-conference honors and honorable mention all-metro laurels as a senior. She set a school record with 27 career goals scored, while adding 21 career assists. During her three years, Sawicki helped Nerinx to a 50-20-2 mark, including placing second in the state during her junior year. She was a two-year Futures participant, as well as a member of the Saint Louis Stix festival team and the AIM indoor club team. Sawicki, who is undecided on a major at Ball State, was teammates with current Cardinals' forward Katie Kloeckener at Nerinx.
Brooke MacGillivary (North Vancouver, B.C./Carson Graham)
MacGillivary was prepped by Jane Kozniuk at Carson Graham Secondary, where the team finished third at provincials this past season. On her way to being named to the Girl's AAA All-Star Honorable Mention Team as a senior, MacGillivary helped her squad to the North Shore Championship. MacGillivary, who plans to major in exercise science, was also a forward on the Carson Graham soccer team under coach Darren Rath.
