Wilkes-Krier & Boomsma Post Top 20 Finish; Men's Golf 10th At Michigan State

EAST LANSING, Mich. -- Despite a pair of top 20 finishes from seniors Patrick Wilkes-Krier and Brandon Boomsma, the Ball State men's golf team posted a final-round team score of 302 to finish tied for 10th at Michigan State's Fossum Invitational.
Wilkes-Krier tied for 15th overall with rounds of 72-74-73, while Boomsma tied for 20th with rounds of 74-73-74. The event was played at Forest Akers Golf Club in East Lansing, Mich.
Indiana won the 12-team tournament with rounds of 292, 283 and 295, while Minnesota's consecutive rounds in the 280s (301-284-289) propelled the Golden Gophers into second.
The Cardinals opened with a round of 296, before posting a 300 team score in round two and a final-round 302 to tie for 10th overall.
Individually, Austin Steele (75-78-77) tied for 51st, C.D. Hockersmith (75-78-78) tied for 55th and Andy Skillman (75-79-81) tied for 60th.
The Cardinals will have their final tune-up to the 2006 Mid-American Conference Championship next week at the First Energy Intercollegiate played at Firestone Golf Club in Akron, Ohio.
Ball State hosts the 2006 MAC Championship May 4-6 at Brickyard Crossing in Indianapolis.
