Women's Tennis Earns Hard Fought Victory Over Akron

After winning the doubles point Ball State (9-10, 3-4 MAC) continued the success in singles play, scoring points at No. 1, No. 3 and No. 4. Akron tried to rally back and came up with wins at No. 2, No. 5 and No. 6 singles. The deciding point of the outing came at the No. 3 slot where BSU's Haly Calderwood edged UA's Amy Sherlock 7-6 (4), 7-6 (4).
Ball State's Jessica Thompson posted a straight-set 6-3, 6-0 verdict over UA's Tanya Gombera at the No. 1 slot, while Katie Owens also tallied a 6-3, 6-0 win over her opponent -- Alyssa Carlson -- at No. 4.
The Cardinals finish out the regular season with a 1 p.m. matchup at Buffalo Saturday.
