The matchup started with doubles play where Ball State's Jessica Thompson and Haly Calderwood breezed past IPFW's Ashley Coulson and Jessica Vervyneckt 8-1 in the No. 1 slot. Katie Owens and Stephanie Farrar were the next Cardinals to finish in the No. 2 spot. The duo easily slid past Sachi Janek and Beth Miller 8-3. Rounding out doubles play were Jennifer Pollack and Rachel Lemar, who outlasted Hanna Hager and Lisa Bartelheim 8-6 in the No. 3 position.
In singles play, all but one match was decided in straight sets. Thompson continued the successful play as she took down Janek 6-1, 7-6 (5) at the top spot. Farrar added another win with a 6-2, 6-3 decision at the No. 2 slot over Coulson. Pollack came back from a first set loss to Hager and eventually won 0-6, 7-5, 1-0 (5) at the No. 3 hole. Calderwood had little trouble with Bartelheim as she scored a 6-1, 6-2 victory at the No. 4 spot. Owens and Retter closed out singles competition with a 6-1, 6-1 and 6-2, 6-0 win at the No. 5 and No. 6 positions, respectively.
The Cardinals continue their three-match homestand with a 3 p.m. matchup versus Youngstown State Friday.
