CHARLESTON, S.C. -- The Ball State University baseball team (1-3) lost to the Towson Tigers (1-3) 5-4 at Riley Park Friday afternoon.
BSU redshirt-sophomore pitcher Ben Snyder (Bellevue, Ohio/Bellevue) looked sharp in his second start of the season, striking out the first three batters he faced and finishing with 6.0 innings pitched, nine strikeouts, one walk and just three earned runs.
Senior first baseman Brad Miller (Muncie, Ind./Central) opened the scoring in the second inning on a wild pitch by Towson's Chris Rhoades, after reaching on an error by the Tigers' shortstop. It was Miller's fourth run of the year.
Tigers' left fielder A.J. Tinnerella knotted the game back at 1-1 in the third with an RBI single to right field, driving in Gary Helmick from second base.

Two-straight Towson singles followed by a double from Tinnerella tied the game back at 3-3 in the bottom of the fourth.
Snyder escaped trouble with two runners on in the sixth, as senior catcher Matt Singleton (Ft. Wayne, Ind./Homestead) picked off the runner on second base and the Cardinals infield turned a double play a few pitches later.
Senior designated hitter Chris Pestle (Lafayette, Ind./McCutcheon) nailed an RBI double down the left field line in the top of the seventh, driving in senior third baseman C.J. Webb (Mascoutah, Ill./Mascoutah) to give Ball State a 4-3 lead.
The Tigers added two runs on a hit by Tinnerella in the bottom of the ninth to win their first game of the season.
In relief for the Cardinals, senior Kory Bucklew (Fishers, Ind./Hamilton Southeastern) went 1.2 innings, surrendering just one hit, and redshirt-sophomore Kyle Heyne (Coldwater, Ohio/Coldwater) went 0.2 innings. Heyne took the loss, giving up one earned run and two hits while striking out one batter.
The Cardinals will play The Citadel (4-2) Saturday following the Towson/Le Moyne matchup at 10 a.m.
