Heyne Named MAC West Pitcher of the Week
February 20, 2006 | Baseball
MUNCIE, Ind. -- Ball State redshirt-sophomore Kyle Heyne (Coldwater, Ohio/Coldwater) has been named Mid-American Conference West Division Pitcher of the Week -- for the week of Feb. 20 -- after leading the Cardinals (1-2) to their first win of the 2006 season Sunday afternoon at the University of Alabama at Birmingham. The award is the first for Heyne in his career and the first individual award for the Cardinals this season.
A right-handed pitcher, Heyne threw five innings of relief to earn his second career victory -- the first coming May 17, 2005, at IPFW. He posted a career-best six strikeouts, while allowing just one hit, no walks and zero earned runs as BSU defeated the Blazers 11-10 in 13 innings.
Ball State continues its season this weekend at the Citadel Tournament in Charleston, S.C. The Cardinals kick-off the tournament Friday at noon versus Towson, then take on Citadel Saturday at 2:30 p.m. and Le Moyne Sunday at 11:30 a.m.
