Owens Honored as MAC Women's Tennis Player of the Week

MUNCIE, Ind. - - Ball State senior Katie Owens (Puyallup, Wash./Emerald Ridge H.S.) has been selected as the Mid-American Conference Women's Tennis Player of the Week, as announced today by the league office. The honor marks the first in 2006 in which a BSU women's tennis player has been selected for the award.
Owens went 4-0 in competition against Michigan State and Youngstown State last weekend. She secured BSU's lone singles win of the match versus Michigan State last Sunday. At the No. 5 slot, Owens took down MSU's Sarah Andrews 6-3, 7-6. She also teamed up with Stephanie Farrar for the Cardinals' lone doubles win at the No. 2 position. The duo easily slid past Michigan State's Stephanie Kebler and Jessica Baron 8-2. On Friday, Owens picked up another singles win at the No. 5 spot. She defeated Youngstown State's Michelle Fuleky 6-4, 7-6 (6) and, once again paired with Farrar for an 8-6 victory at the No. 2 slot.
Owens and the squad continue their 2006 campaign when they travel to Chicago, Ill., to take on DePaul Feb. 24 at 6 p.m.
