Women's Golf Inks Two Recruits
December 06, 2006 | Women's Golf
Rachael Pruett (Linton, Ind./Stockton H.S.) and Brittany Kelly (Fishers, Ind./Hamilton Southeastern H.S.) have each signed National Letters of Intent to attend Ball State University and compete for the women's golf program, according to head coach Katherine Mowat.
"I really do believe this class is the most talented we've ever signed at Ball State," Mowat says. "They committed early, which is exciting as a head coach. They both have had a tremendous amount of competitive experience and national-level experience. There is no question, these two are among the best players in the state of Indiana and we are excited to have them at Ball State."
Pruett is a three-time Indiana high school state tournament qualifier, who was named an all-state honoree as a senior. She was her team's low medalist in every dual, triangular or quadrangular meet in which she competed. Pruett won three invitationals as a senior and posted an 18-hole average of 76.6.
Pruett also competed in national events and advanced to the United States Golf Association Junior Girls National Championship in 2006 with a score of 76 at Purdue's Kampen Golf Course. She finished fourth in the Indiana Women's Open with rounds of 74-74, plus finished third at the Westfield Indiana PGA Junior Championship this year.
"Rachael is a dedicated student, ranking first in her class and a dedicated golfer," Mowat says. "She has competed very well in many events against strong competition. Ball State is a good fit for her both in golf and academically."
Kelly is the 2006 Indiana PGA Women's Open Champion and the USGA Junior Qualifier Champion. She earned four letters at Hamilton Southeastern and an 18-hole average of 76.08. A four-time All-Hamilton County selection, Kelly set a school record with a round of 68 at Stony Creek Golf Course. Her 2003 team won the state championship, while she qualified for state as an individual in both 2004 and 2005. This season, she finished 11th overall and helped her team to a runner-up finish at the state meet.
"Brittany played for a very strong high school program," Mowat says. "She has been exposed to the atmosphere of winning. She can have an immediate impact on our program."
The daughter of Ken and Joni Kelly, Brittany's sister Ashley graduated from Ball State last spring, while her father competed in the pole vault as a student-athlete for the Cardinals.
