Men's Basketball Falls At Tennessee State, 67-60
December 23, 2006 | Men's Basketball
NASHVILLE -- Despite a season-high 26 points from Skip Mills, the Ball State men's basketball team dropped a 67-60 decision Friday night at Tennessee State.
The loss drops Ball State to 4-8 overall, while TSU improves to 5-5.
"This one hurts," says BSU head coach Ronny Thompson. "We had some guys give good effort tonight, but it seems that every time we get a lead, we stop doing the things that got us the lead. We have to become a smarter team."
Mills scored the first seven points of the contest en route to a 15-4 lead. The host Tigers responded, however, and ended the first half with a 7-0 run to take a 31-24 lead at halftime.
The second half saw TSU hold a 10-point lead through much of the half until Brandon Lampley sparked a BSU run with a three-point field with under six minutes to play. A tip-in from Micah Rollin pulled the Cardinals within 56-55 with three minutes to play, but the Tigers responded from the free throw line to secure the win.
Besides the 26 from Mills, Peyton Stovall and Rollin each added eight points. Rollin and Mills grabbed a team-best nine rebounds.
Ball State played without top six-man D'Andre Peyton, who flew home earlier in the day due to a family emergency.
The Cardinals return to action Dec. 30 at Indiana.
