Soccer's Holst Earns Second Team Academic All-America Honors

"This is one of the most prestigious awards that any student-athlete can receive in their career, and Amy is very deserving of this honor," head coach Michelle Salmon said. "Amy is not only one of the best players to wear a Ball State uniform but she also represents the academic expectations we have for our program."
Holst, a team co-captain, owns a 3.87 grade point average in microbiology. She has earned Academic All-District honors from ESPN The Magazine the past two seasons and is a three-time member of the Academic All-Mid-American Conference team.
This past season, she guided the Cardinals to their first ever Mid-American Conference Regular Season Championship and a
Holst earned First Team All-MAC honors and was tied for the team lead with nine goals as a central midfielder. She became just the third Cardinal all-time to record a hat trick as she accomplished the feat with three goals against MAC foe Akron. She finished the year second on the team with three game-winning goals, including the clincher against regionally ranked Northwestern.
Holst becomes the first Cardinal student-athlete to earn Academic All-American accolades since former volleyball standout Sarah Obras picked up Third Team honors in 2005. She is the first Second Team recipient since baseball standout Kyle Dygert earned the honor in the 2004-05 academic year.
