November 20, 2006 | Soccer
"We couldn't be happier for the success that Amy, Sarah and Emily had this year both on the field and in the classroom," head coach Michelle Salmon said. "They are the true definition of what it means to be a student-athlete at Ball State."
Holst, a senior midfielder, boasts a 3.87 GPA in microbiology, and this is the third straight season she has made the Academic All-MAC team. She finished tied for the team lead in goals with nine and earned First Team All-MAC honors for her play. She tallied just the third hat trick in Ball State soccer history earlier this season against MAC foe Akron. She also earned ESPN The Magazine First Team Academic All-District honors and is now eligible for Academic All-America honors.
Maxwell, a senior defender a co-captain, has a 3.66 GPA in general studies and makes her first appearance on the academic squad. She anchored the back line for the Cardinals and helped the team to a conference best seven shutouts on the year as a First Team All-MAC recipient. The Cardinals only allowed 22 goals on the season, including just 11 in conference action.
Rein, a sophomore forward, brings a 3.70 GPA in pre-business to the All-Academic team. She earned First Team All-MAC honors as a forward as she led the team in scoring with nine goals and four assists. Her 22 points were second best in the MAC this season as were her four game-winning goals. She started all 20 games for the Cardinals and tallied six of her nine goals against conference opponents.
This is the second straight season that the Cardinals have placed three players on the Academic All-MAC team. The Academic All-MAC honor is for a student athlete who has excelled in athletics and academics. To qualify, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.20 cumulative GPA and have participated in at least 50 percent of the contests for that particular sport.
