Women's Tennis Sweeps Dayton and UW-Milwaukee

To begin the day, Jessica Thompson and Haly Calderwood took down Dayton's Allysa Detroy and Kate Mellion 8-3 in No. 1 doubles play. Also securing an 8-3 win were Stephanie Farrar and Katie Owens in the No. 2 doubles position. The duo defeated Megan Gray and Nikki Dzubay. Jennifer Pollack teamed with Rachel Lemar for an 8-1 win over Carrie Trigilio and Mackenzie Hoops at the No. 3 doubles spot.
In the singles competition, the Cardinals posted straight set victories in all but one match. Thompson held off Detroy for a 6-3, 6-2 victory in the top spot, while Farrar posted a 6-2, 6-3 win over Mellion at No. 2. Pollack, Owens and Retter tallied wins in the No. 4 (6-2, 6-3), No. 5 (6-1, 6-1) and No. 6 (2-6, 6-2, 6-1) positions, respectively.
After a short break, BSU took on UW-Milwaukee in the second match of the doubleheader. Thompson and Calderwood did not give up a game in an 8-0 decision over Margie VanLieshout and Sam Drews at the No. 1 doubles slot. Farrar and Owens slid past Traci Litscher and Shayna Illingworth 8-1 in the second spot, while Pollack and Lemar recorded an 8-5 victory over Elizabeth Angel and Lauren Fenley at the No. 3 position.
The Cardinals had the same success in singles play as each player posted a straight set victory. Thompson continued the great play at the No. 1 spot with a 6-3, 6-1 win over VanLieshout. Farrar did not give up a game in a 6-0, 6-0 decision over Litscher at No. 2, while Pollack only gave up one game against Illingworth at No. 3 (6-1, 6-0). Rounding out the singles play was Owens, Calderwood and Retter, who took down Fenley (6-1, 6-1), Angel (6-0, 6-0) and Drews (6-0, 6-0).
Ball State hits the road Sunday for a 3 p.m. matchup versus No. 32 Indiana.
