Women's Tennis Opens with 6-1 Win

The Cardinals jumped out to a 1-0 lead after back-to-back-to-back wins in doubles. BSU's No. 1 doubles tandem of Jessica Thompson and Haly Calderwood yielded just two games before posting an 8-2 win. In the No. 2 slot, Stephanie Farrar and Katie Owens scored an 8-1 verdict, while teammates Jennifer Pollack and Emma Retter were victorious at No. 3 with an 8-5 win.
Ball State registered two-set wins at five singles slots to secure the victory. Thompson, Farrar, Pollack, Owens and Retter snared wins at No. 1, No. 2, No. 4, No. 5 and No. 6 singles, respectively.
"In general, I would have to say this was a good first outing for our team," BSU head coach Kathy Bull said. "We were solid in doubles, which is a goal for us, and our singles were competitive. I thought our intensity was good and I'm happy to have this first match out of the way."
BSU continues play Saturday in Bloomington, Ind., versus Kansas.
