Holst Scores Game Winner to Push Soccer Past Youngstown State
September 04, 2005 | Soccer
Offense was the main objective in Sunday's bout as the Cardinals outshot the visiting Penguins 33-2. In corner kicks, BSU also held an advantage, taking 11 to YSU's 0.
Holst's goal was her first of the 2005 season. It was assisted by sophomore forward Sarah Leibel in the 63rd minute of play.
Leibel was a mainstay for the Cardinals offensively, contributing a game-high eight shots. Holst posted five, while fellow junior midfielder Vandi Ogden notched another four for the home team. Overall, eleven Cardinals posted at least one shot in the game.
"We did some good things today," said Ball State head coach Ron Rainey. "It is tough to score in our game. You have to give credit to Youngstown State. They were organized and played well defensively. However, getting the shutout is real important to us. When you go through a weekend and allow only one goal, you are going to win a lot of games."
Ball State (3-1-0) will look for its fourth win Friday when it hosts IPFW at 4 p.m. at the BSU Soccer Field. Admission is free.
