Soccer Rolls Past IUPUI
September 16, 2005 | Soccer
Freshman Emily Rein did not wait long to put Ball State on the scoreboard. She beat IUPUI's goalkeeper, Jessie Mann, with a shot in the top left of the net at the 1:36 mark off a pass from senior Lindsay Wiltshire.
After 20 scoreless minutes, IUPUI's Angie Pilat tied the game at one apiece when she ran through the middle and shot at the lower right of the net.
Ball State would find success once again 38:25 into the game. Sophomore Laura Bandy earned her first goal of the season when she slid in a shot after a hard cross to the middle. Freshman Katelyn Alexander was credited with the assist.
The Cardinals did not stop there. At the 60:56 mark, junior Vandi Ogden found the loose ball in the box and scored her second winner of the season.
BSU had a 27 to nine advantage in shots and posted 11 corner kicks to IUPUI's four. Ogden led the Cardinals with six shots, while Rein chipped in with five.
"It was a fun and entertaining game," said Ball State head coach Ron Rainey. "This game showcased both teams' work ethic and was a good 90 minutes of soccer."
The Ball State soccer team looks for its fifth-straight win when it hosts Loyola University Chicago Sunday at 1 p.m. at the BSU Soccer Field. Admission is free.
