Soccer Secures Fifth Win of Season at Wright State
September 11, 2005 | Soccer
Ball State struck initially in the 32nd minute off of a corner kick, as freshman Katelyn Alexander snuck a shot past Wright State's goalkeeper, Steph Comisar, for the games first tally. Sophomore Angie Heyer was credited with the assist. The winner was Alexander's first of the season.
In the second half (59:30), senior Lindsay Wiltshire redirected a tipped ball in front of the net to score the final goal of the game and give BSU the 2-0 lead. The goal, which was assisted by juniors Vandi Ogden and Amy Holst, was the second for Wiltshire in 2005.
"It was a good game and a great result for the team in what was a tough day mentally," said BSU head coach Ron Rainey. "We were very clean in the 18's defensively. I was impressed with our finishing as well. Those factors are what won the game for us today. I am excited about the outcome and am looking forward to some good practices this week."
The host Raiders outshot the Cardinals 10-7, but recorded only one shot on goal, compared to BSU's four. Ball State also took a six to four advantage in corner kicks.
The Cardinals look for their fourth-straight win Friday when they travel to IUPUI. The game is slated to begin at 7 p.m. in Indianapolis.
