Men's Volleyball Players Compete on National Teams

MUNCIE, Ind. -- Besides running camps and clinics, the Ball State men's volleyball program remains busy during the summer months with four players – current and former – competing on various National teams for the United States.
Alumnus Phil Eatherton (Glencoe, Mo.), who lettered at Ball State from 1994-97, is a starter on the National Team at the America's Cup in Sao Leopoldo, Brazil. The six-team tournament field is made up of two groups (Group A: Argentina, Brazil and Venezuela; Group B: Canada, Cuba and the United States) that will play matches from Aug. 3-7.
Matt Denmark (Edmond, Okla.) played for the Cardinals from 2000-03 and is currently on the World University Games roster for Team USA. Scheduled to run Aug. 11-21, the Games will be held in Izmir, Turkey and include 24 teams. The United States will begin in Pool D along with teams from Belgium, China, France, Lebanon and Slovakia.
A 2005 BSU redshirt, Matt McCarthy (Wheaton, Ill.) is a middle blocker for the men's Junior National Team, which is competing in Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh, India from Aug. 6-14 in a 12-team field. In Pool B with the US are Brazil, Germany, Iran, Tunisia and the Netherlands.
In the 2005 Boys Youth Four-Nation Tournament, 2006 signee Todd Chamberlain (Louisville, Ky.) and Team USA competed against Brazil, Argentina and Italy in Cabo Frio, Brazil. The team began play July 23 and finished on the 30th with a 1-6 overall record to place fourth. Team USA's victory came July 28 with a 3-2 win over Italy.
