Soccer Falls to Dayton in Home Exhibition Opener

MUNCIE, Ind. -- The Ball State women's soccer team opened its 2005 season with a 3-1 loss to Dayton in an exhibition match Saturday in Muncie. The Cardinals, who were picked to finish seventh overall this season in the Mid-American Conference, officially opens the 2005 season Aug. 26 at Indiana State.
Junior Sarah Maxwell gave the Cardinals their lone goal of the afternoon at the 25:01 mark in the second period off an assist from fellow junior Amy Holst. Dayton's Reba Sedlacek put the Flyers on the scoreboard first with a goal at the 4:14 mark of the second period, then notched a second goal 14 minutes into the final period. Meghan Borysiak followed with the Flyers' final goal of the match with two minutes remaining in the third stanza.
The Cardinals return eight starters and 17 letterwinners from the 2004 team, which ended the season with an 10-3-7 overall record and a 5-2-5 record in league play.
