Wilkes-Krier & Denger Named To Academic All-MAC Team
May 13, 2005 | Men's Golf
The MAC announced its 2005 men's golf Academic All-MAC Team Wednesday, as voted by faculty athletic representatives at the MAC institutions.
The team honors seven student-athletes. The number of honorees on the MAC All-Academic Team are the number that is set for the specific sport or 33% of the number of nominees, whichever is greater.
At the 2005 MAC Championship earlier this month, Wilkes-Krier played his final 36 holes of the tournament at three-under par, including a final-round 71. Wilkes-Krier (75-73-70-71) joined Denger (69-71-79-70) to tie for 14th place overall -- BSU's top finishers at the event. Both Wilkes-Krier and Denger were named to the All-MAC Second Team.
"I am very proud of Wayne and Patrick," Fleck said. "I am happy those two were recognized by the league and the MAC coaches for what they brought to our team this season. Their continued hard work and dedication was noticed. Those two will continue to get better and guide this team to our ultimate goal of winning a MAC Championship."
The Academic All-MAC honor is for a student-athlete who has excelled in athletics and academics. To qualify, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.20 cumulative GPA and have participated in at least 50 percent of the contests for that particular sport. First-year students and junior college transfers in their first year of residence are not eligible for the award.
