Men's Golf Finishes Second at Firestone; Denger Advances to Playoff

In addition, Ball State's Wayne Denger shot a 68-73-69=210 to tie for first with Toledo's Justin Bertsch and Toledo's Tyler Riley. Denger lost the three-way playoff on the fourth hole, while Bertsch claimed medalist honors.
The Cardinals managed team scores of 292-290-291=873 to finish five strokes behind Toledo, but defeated six Mid-American Conference schools, Big Ten foe Penn State and Big 12 opponent Kansas State.
Ball State fell behind Toledo by nine strokes after the first round, but defeated the Rockets by three strokes in the second round and one stroke in the third and final round.
Patrick Wilkes-Krier rebounded from a 78 in round one to shoot a 67 and 74 in the second and third rounds, respectively, to tie for seventh in the 77-player field.
Bud Graessle (74-75-75) and Andy Skillman (75-75-74) totalled 224 apiece to tie for 15th. C.D. Hockersmith managed a 75-77-74=226 to tie for 26th.
Ball State will compete at the Kepler Invitational at Ohio State's Scarlet Course next Saturday and Sunday.
