October 28, 2005 | Soccer
Ball State finishes the regular season 15-3-1 overall and 8-2-1 in MAC play. Miami concludes its season with an 8-8-0 overall record, while finishing 6-5-0 in league action.
"This was a nice way to end the regular season," said Ball State head coach Ron Rainey. "I think mentally, we did a nice job of not letting them get in the flow. We are looking forward to heading into the tournament."
Sophomore midfielder Angie Heyer scored both of Ball State's goals, with the first coming at the 6:12 mark in the first half. The Cardinals would take the 1-0 lead into the second half.
After the break, Miami knotted the score at 1-1 when Amiee Prevallet found the back of the net at 65:39 off an assist from Kathleen Vistica and Lindy Slinger.
Heyer recorded her second goal less than five minutes later (70:21) off an assist from sophomore defender Lindsay Martin. The two goals give Heyer four on the season.
The host RedHawks held a 10-8 advantage in shots, yet BSU took five corner kicks to their three.
Junior goalkeeper Alison Becker tallied four saves in 90 minutes in goal.
Ball State will host the No. 7 seed -- Kent State -- in MAC quarterfinal action Tuesday. Game time is 2 p.m. at the BSU Soccer Field.
