Field Hockey Falters at Miami
October 23, 2005 | Field Hockey
OXFORD, Ohio -- Much like the first time the Ball State (3-12, 2-6 MAC) field hockey team squared off with Miami (8-9, 5-4 MAC) earlier this season, Sunday afternoon's game was a defensive battle that ended in a 1-0 decision, but this time in favor of the RedHawks.
Miami's Danielle Perrecone scored her second goal of the season at the 26:44 mark of the first half with assists from Laura Seidel and Alyssa Nye on a direct penalty corner conversion for the eventual game winner.
Ball State senior goalkeeper Tracy Bannister (Woodbridge, Va./Woodbridge), following a seven-save shutout performance Saturday against Central Michigan, stopped nine shots to keep the Cardinals within striking distance of the RedHawks until the end. But, thanks in part to Miami goalkeeper Kerri Orr and her eight-save effort, the RedHawks wouldn't allow a comeback.
Sophomore Katie Kloeckener (St. Louis, Mo./Nerinx) had a game-high seven shots for the Cardinals, while senior Chantelle Isaac (Clayton, Calif./Concord) added three shots of her own. Sophomore Jamie Kahn (San Diego, Calif./Serra), junior Lindsay Quay (Macungie, Pa./Emmaus) and senior Maggie Durbin (St. Louis, Mo./Villa Duchesne) rounded out the Cardinals' offensive output with one shot apiece.
MU finished with a 19-14 edge in shots, while also holding the edge in penalty corners at 11-6.
In their previous meeting Oct. 7 in Muncie, Ball State earned a 1-0 shutout victory in overtime with a goal by Isaac.
Ball State hosts its final home contest of the season Thursday, Oct. 27 at 3 p.m. against MAC first-place team Kent State (6-12, 6-2 MAC) and then wraps up the regular season Sunday, Oct. 30 at Missouri State (3-12, 2-5 MAC) at 10 a.m.
