Soccer Earns Seventh Shutout of Season With 2-0 Win at Ohio
October 14, 2005 | Soccer
"It was an awesome team result today," said Ball State head coach Ron Rainey. "Our team played hard and played tight defensively. We were real opportunistic when we had scoring chances. It was a great outcome today."
After 70 scoreless minutes of play, sophomore Laura Bandy created a smooth play by drawing OU's goalkeeper, Katie Overmann, out on the right side before she slid the ball across, right in front of the goal line. Freshman Emily Rein slid into the ball and found the back of the net. It was Rein's six goal of the season.
Five minutes later (76:18), Bandy once again found herself in position. She shot the ball off the left post just outside the reach of Overmann. The ball bounced in behind Overmann's reach. Bandy's goal was her third of the 2005 campaign.
Junior goalkeeper Alison Becker notched her sixth shutout of the season and recorded three saves on the afternoon.
Sophomore Sarah Leibel added a team-high five shots, three of which were on goal, while Rein chipped in with three shots of her own. Freshman Annie Aiello managed two shots in the contest.
BSU held a 16-12 advantage in shots and a 6-3 edge in corner kicks.
The Cardinals continue their weekend road trek with a 1 p.m. matchup at Akron Sunday.
