Two Men's Golfers Named All-America Scholars
June 11, 2003 | Men's Golf
Kenny Cook (Union City, Ohio/Mississinawa Valley H.S.), a senior member of the Ball State University 2002-03 men's golf team, and Justin Cross (Richmond, Ind./Richmond H.S.), a junior at BSU, were each named Cleveland Golf All-America Scholars, which were selected by the Golf Coaches Association of America. Cook and Cross were the only golfers from any of the 13 Mid-American Conference schools to earn this honor.
Cook, who was an All-Mid-American Conference and Academic All-MAC First-Team selection this season, managed a 3.29 grade-point average on Ball State's 4.0 scale as an accounting major. He led the Cardinals with a 73.15 average, and won medalist honors at The Bullock Collegiate Classic April 13-14. Cook tallied five top-10 finishes for the Cardinals this year. This marks the second straight year Cook was named a Cleveland Golf All-America Scholar.
Cross managed a 76.00 average this season, including a career-low round of 70 at the Northern Intercollegiate last fall. Cross, who was also an Academic All-MAC First-Team choice this year, owns a 3.35 GPA as a finance major. Cross was Ball State's No. 2 finisher in five events last season.
Ball State completed the 2003 season with a fourth-place finish out of 10 teams at the MAC Championships May 1-3.
