Women's Golf Idle Until April 2-3
March 06, 2002 | Women's Golf
A question and answer session with Ball State head coach Shelley Sanders follows:
How do you assess the team's progress through the fall season?: "The highlight of our fall was certainly winning our very first event of the year and the first event a Ball State women's golf team has played in a long time. Building this first-year program has been exciting, and we used the fall schedule to help prepare us not only for the spring, but to set a foundation for the program. We were able to gain some good quality tournament experience and the players now have a better understanding of what to expect. Each player needs to improve their scoring average by three shots or more in order for us to be competitive this spring."
Who would be some of the golfers to watch for this spring?: "Tracy Myers led the team throughout the fall and will be looked to for continuation of that this spring. She has the ability to improve and become more consistent. She has a tremendous amount of potential and can help lead this team as we build our program. Lisa Robertson is working on some swing adjustments that will help make her more consistent on a daily basis. We are looking for her to contribute greatly this spring. She is a very hard worker and is constantly striving for improvement in her golf game. Laura Adkins is on the verge of playing some really good golf. She works diligently at the game and has a great deal of desire. She is a solid ball striker and has an excellent putting stroke. We are looking for a lot of good things from her this spring."
What does Ball State need to do to be successful this spring?: "This team needs to be more effective with its scoring. Each individual plays well at times, but under the pressure of competition they need to be confident enough to score within their own ability. If we can improve our consistency for each round of every tournament, then we could be much more competitive in the Mid-American Conference. We have set goals, and if we can accomplish these goals, we can be competitive within the conference. We have a good group of players who have excellent work ethics and are a solid foundation for Ball State women's golf."
