Women's Tennis Wraps Up Season With MAC Tourney Loss To Toledo
April 27, 2018 | Women's Tennis
MUNCIE, Ind. - The No. 6 Ball State women's tennis team (11-11) saw its 2018 season come to an end with a 4-0 loss to No. 3 Toledo (16-6) Friday afternoon in the quarterfinals of the Mid-American Conference Tournament which is being held on campus of Ball State at the Cardinal Creek Tennis Center.
The Cardinals gave a stellar performance in doubles play and didn't lose the point to the Rockets until the very end. Sidnay Huck and Kokoro Chishaki would be the first doubles tandem off the court, winning 6-2 over Audrey Berger and Rebecca Herrington at the one spot. Then on court two, Victoria Sec and Peyton Gollhofer evened the score by taking a 7-6 (1) decision against Toledo's Colleen O'Brien and D. Leenabanchong. The doubles victory came down to the No. 3 slot where Sarah Swiderski and Isabelle Dohanics were putting up a good fight but dropped their match 7-5 to the Rockets.
Sidney Huck would give Toledo the 2-0 edge over the Cardinals after her straight set take down against Berger on court two. After that, Dohanics would suffer a 6-4, 6-1 loss at No. 4 singles to Chishaki. Although the Rockets had the lead, the match could have gone either way. Ball State put up a heck of a fight taking first sets from Toledo on courts one, three, five and six but unfortunately Swiderski couldn't hold on in the third frame and would fall 6-4 to O'Brien on court three for the loss.
Toledo will now face No. 2 Miami in the semifinals Saturday afternoon at 2 p.m. at the Cardinal Creek Tennis Center, weather permitting.
