Cardinals Announce 2018 Field Hockey Schedule

MUNCIE, Ind. – The Ball State field hockey team has announced the 2018 schedule, which is highlighted by six home contests.
"The 2018 season is packed with great opponents, led by well-respected peers in coaching," head field hockey coach Stephanie Bernthal said. "We have some fantastic out-of-conference matchups, including several traditional Big Ten foes. We also get the chance to take on some out-of-region teams, like UNC and UC Davis. With several new head coaches and a lot of programs on the rise in the MAC, I think it will be a really exciting year in the conference."
The Cardinals will kick off the season with a scrimmage against Indiana University in Bloomington on Aug. 18. The next weekend with be Ball State's first regular season contest in Oxford, Ohio against Saint Francis.
The Hoosier will travel to Muncie on Aug. 26 as the first Big Ten opponent of the regular season for the Cardinals. Other Big Ten schools that Ball State will face are Iowa (Sept. 2), Ohio State (Sept. 7), Michigan (Oct. 14) and Northwestern (Oct. 21).
Other non-conference action includes two ACC schools in North Carolina and Louisville in back-to-back matchups. The Cardinals will also battle Dartmouth on Sept. 1 and Lehigh on Sept. 8.
Ball State's first conference game will be played at home against Miami on Sept. 15. The conference schedule will continue with a trip to Appalachian State on Sept. 28 followed by a home contest with Ohio (Oct. 5). On Oct. 12, the Cardinals will travel to take on the Golden Flashes then make their way to Mt. Pleasant, Mich. to take on Central Michigan Oct. 19. Ball State will close out the season with a home matchup against Longwood on Oct. 27.
The Mid-American Conference Tournament is set for Nov. 2-3 at Miami.
"The spring and summer are about preparing for fall championships—this Cardinal program has been grinding it out and have shown that they are energized for the challenge ahead of us," Bernthal added.
