
Four Former Cardinals to be Inducted into MIVA Hall of Fame

MUNCIE, Ind. – The Midwestern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association announced its second Hall of Fame class on Monday, which was made up of 10 members. Arnie Ball, Tom Beerman, Mick Haley and Terry Hitchcock were the four former Ball State Cardinals named to this year's class.
Arnie Ball played for the Cardinals during in the 1966 and 1967 seasons. He went on to coach at IPFW from 1981-2015. As a player at Ball State, Ball was named All-MIVA First Team in 1967 and All-MIVA Second Team in 1966. Ball is a six-time MIVA Coach of the Year as the head of the Mastodons program. He helped his squad to six MIVA regular season championships and six NCAA semifinal appearances. An AVCA Hall of Famer, Ball has coached 25 All-Americans including two future Olympians. He also coached USA Volleyball World University and U.S. Olympic Festival teams.
Tom Beerman played for Ball State from 1960 to 1963, where he earned MIVA Player of the Year and All-MIVA First Team. Beerman went on to play for the United States International Teams in the 1969 Zonal Championships and the 1970 World Championships. In 1970, he was named to the United States Volleyball Association's All-American First Team. Beerman then assisted the US team in the 1974 Canadian International Tournament.
Mick Haley was a three-time All-MIVA setter for the Cardinals from 1962-1965. Haley helped Ball State to two MIVA Championships in 1964 and 1965. He was named MIVA Player of the Year after the 1965 season. Haley went on to coach both men and women at the college level. He helped the Kellogg Community College men's team to four national championships and will be inducted into the Junior College Coaches Hall of Fame. Haley was also a longtime coach for the women's team at Texas and USC. While at Texas, he won two national titles at the head of the program. In 1997, Haley was named head coach of the USA Women's National Team.
Rounding out the MIVA Hall of Fame class for the Cardinals is Terry Hitchcock. Hitchcock was a student-athlete at Ball State in 1960. He is also a longtime volleyball official.
There are now six total members of the MIVA Hall of Fame from Ball State. Last year, Don Shondell and Jerre McManama were part of the inaugural class.
Members of the 2018 Hall of Fame Class will be honored Saturday, May 12th in O'Fallon, Illinois at the league's annual meeting at McKendree University.
