March 06, 2018 | Women's Tennis
KENNESAW, Ga. - The Ball State women's tennis team improved its overall spring record to 6-4 Tuesday afternoon when the Cardinals earned a 6-1 victory at Kennesaw State.
In doubles play, first off the court for the Cardinals would be the No. 3 doubles tandem of Peyton Gollhofer and Lilya Hadab. The twosome took down Kennesaw State's duo of Aspen Jarrett and Kennedy Craig, 6-3. After that, Ball State's Audrey Berger and Rebecca Herrington registered a 6-2 win over the Owls Laura Hopton and Cristina Perez-Martin to clinch the doubles point for the Cardinals.
Ball State carried its momentum into singles action taking five of the six matches from Kennesaw State. The Owls Hopton knotted the match 1-1 with her 6-2, 6-1 defeat over Hadab at the No. 5 position but that would be the only match Ball State would let the Owls have, as the Cardinals soon took over the competition. Sarah Swiderski pushed the Cardinals lead to 2-0 with a straight set win over Kennedy Craig on court two. Julia Sbircea then made it a 3-1 match after she beat Jarrett at the number six singles position. After that, Herrington claimed the win for the Cardinals after a 7-5, 6-4 take down over Jessica Cantrell at the No. 4 spot.
