Women's Tennis Suffers 4-3 Road Loss At Dayton

DAYTON, Ohio - The Ball State women's tennis team fell to 7-5 on the season after suffering a close 4-3 road loss to Dayton Friday afternoon.
The Flyers won their first match in doubles play, after Kelly Pleiman and Anna Delaney managed a 6-2 win over Lilya Hadab and Peyton Gollhofer at the No. 3 position. The Cardinals then made doubles 1-1 after Isabelle Dohanics and Julia Sbircea took down the Flyers Marlys Bridgham and Mattea Kilstofte by a score of 6-2 on the top court. The doubles point would come down to the No. 2 position where Audrey Berger and Rebecca Herrington fell 7-5 to Jackie Kawamoto and Jade Kawamoto.
Dayton headed into singles play with a 1-0 edge over the Cardinals but Gollhofer quickly knotted the match 1-1 after a straight set victory at the No. 1 singles position. Herrington then pushed Ball State's lead to 2-1 after her 6-3, 6-4, take down over Kelly Pleiman on court five. The Flyers fought back and would earn victories at the No. 2 and 3 positions to make it a 2-3, match. After that, Victoria Sec then tied the competition for the second time after defeating Natalie Allen, 6-4, 6-3 at the No. 6 slot. The win came down to court four with Dayton beating Dohanics to clinch the fourth and final point.
The Ball State women's tennis team will open Mid-American Conference action at 1 p.m. Friday at home against Miami University.
