#CardinalCamp17: A Beautiful Day for Football
August 02, 2017 | Football
MUNCIE, Ind. – The Ball State football team couldn't ask for a better day to hold its first full team practice of the 2017 season. Sunny skies and a light breeze greeted the Cardinals Wednesday afternoon as the team began its preparation for the season opener at Illinois on Sept. 2.
RED AND WHITE EVERYWHERE: A full roster of 105 players reported to camp over the last few days. Only a few players were held out of today's practice.
NEW SOD: Wednesday's practice, as well as most of the preseason practices, was held on the natural grass practice fields behind Scheumann Stadium. New sod was recently put down on the practice fields and was in fantastic shape for the opening team practice.
THE RETURN OF RILEY: Junior QB Riley Neal was held out of spring practices due to some injury concerns, but was full go today. He wrapped up practice with a sharp slant pass to senior WR Jordan Hogue for a touchdown.
LOTS OF NEW FACES IN CAMP: Thirty-nine true freshmen are a part of the 2017 camp as well as a couple of transfers, giving the Cardinals more than 40 new faces who weren't on the roster last year. Be sure to check out the roster page to get the scoop on the entire squad.
JUST HELMETS: The Cardinals will practice in helmets only for the first few days of camp. The first scheduled day of full pads is this Sunday, Aug. 6.
WANT TO MEET THE CARDINALS? The annual Fan Jam event is slated for Saturday, Aug. 19 at Scheumann Stadium from 5 to 7 p.m. CLICK HERE for more information.
