Ball State Athletics Reading Program Gains Momentum
August 15, 2017 | General
MUNCIE, Ind. – Ball State Athletics, in partnership with the Ball State Office of Community Engagement, is back with the thriving, fun and educational reading program this fall – Charlie's Reading Challenge!
The mission of the reading initiative is to provide a turnkey rubric for schools to increase reading acumen, introduce young readers to Ball State University and the athletics program, and further institutional relations with the community.
After a successful pilot program in the fall of 2016 and 20-plus schools participating in the spring of 2017, more than 50 schools around the state have already opted in this fall.
The program requires participating students to read four books during the month of September, discuss and understand those books. Students completing the challenge will be rewarded with complimentary home football game tickets.
The program officially begins on Sept. 5. Each participating classroom or program will receive an official program poster, which will provide motivation for and track the success of the students. Selected schools will receive a visit from Charlie Cardinal, Ball State student-athletes and coaches.
