Tanner Barton Awarded NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship
June 27, 2017 | Men's Swimming and Diving
MUNCIE, Ind. – Each year the National Collegiate Athletic Association awards up to 174 postgraduate scholarships to student-athletes who excel academically and athletically during their last year of intercollegiate athletic competition. One of those one-time non-renewable $7,500 scholarships was awarded to recent Ball State graduate and swimmer Tanner Barton.
These scholarships are awarded three times a year corresponding with each sport season. Each season there are 29 scholarships available for men and 29 scholarships available for women to use at an accredited graduate institution.
For student-athletes to be eligible, they must be in their final season at an NCAA athletics program or will not be using remaining eligibility; have an overall minimum cumulative grade-point average of 3.200 on a 4.0 scale; have performed with distinction on a varsity team; intend to continue academic work in a full or part-time graduate program; and is an outstanding citizen and role model.
Barton truly embodied all those qualities. Barton, a four year letterwinner, served as co-captain for two straight seasons and currently holds the second best time in the 200 fly with a time of 1:50.09. The Dublin, Ohio native finished his academic career with a perfect 4.0 cumulative grade-point average earning degrees in health sciences and Spanish.
