Alex Maloney Signs Free Agent Deal with Chicago White Sox
June 26, 2017 | Baseball
MUNCIE, Ind. – In the middle of his fourth game with the Birmingham-Bloomfield Beavers out of the United Shore Professional Baseball League, former Ball State player Alex Maloney got a phone call that all baseball players want to receive. The Chicago White Sox organization was interested in signing Maloney to a free agent contract.
Maloney was pulled from Saturday night's game between Birmingham-Bloomfield and Westside in the middle of the fifth inning to begin preparations for his transition to his new team. He is headed to Arizona to join Chicago's rookie team.
The infielder made 226 career starts at Ball State over the last four years, which is third most in program history. Maloney, a native of Chelsea, Michigan, ranked second on the team in home runs (8) and RBIs (36) this past spring.
Ball State concluded the 2017 season with a 30-28 overall record and 14-10 mark in the MAC. This was the fifth straight year the Cardinals reached the 30-win plateau.
