Track & Field Sends Four to Saturday Finals on Day 2 of MAC Championships
May 12, 2017 | Track & Field
KALAMAZOO, Mich. - - It was a solid day on the track for Ball State which had four student-athletes qualify for event finals on the second day of the 2017 Mid-American Conference Outdoor Track & Field Championships at Western Michigan's Kanley Track & Field Complex.
The Cardinals' four event finalists are the most for the program since the 2009 squad had five individuals qualify for a total of seven event finals.
Ball State started Friday's competition strong, with freshman Brooke Talhelm earning one of 12 spots into the finals of the 1500m run with a career-fast clocking of 4:34.17.
The Cardinals' best event on the day, however, was the 100m dash which saw sophomore Peyton Stewart and freshman Bryeana Byrdsong both qualify for Saturday's event final. Stewart earned the third seed with a time of 11.90, while Byrdsong qualified in eighth at 12.02.
Ball State's last finals qualifier was senior Danielle Dahl, who earned the No. 7 seed in the 800m run with a time of 2:12.06. This is the second time Dahl has qualified for the finals in the outdoor 800m run over her career, as she placed fourth in the event as a junior at the 2015 MAC Outdoor Championships.
In addition to the four finals qualifiers, Ball State's student-athletes earned five career-best times on the track in Friday competition.
Ball State closes out the 2017 MAC Outdoor Track & Field Championships Saturday, with competitors in seven events. First up will be the discus with Adrienne Mayfield beginning at noon.
