Women's Tennis Slides By Miami, 4-3

The Cardinals have only lost one doubles point all season long against their MAC counterparts and that was six matches ago, but despite losing on court two to start the match. Ball State came back to take wins at the No. 3 and No. 1 positions over the RedHawks for the early 1-0 advantage. Isabelle Dohanics alongside partner Rosalinda Calderon took a 7-5 decision from Andreea Badileanu and Emily Stuble on court three before the No. 1 doubles tandem of Carmen Blanco and Peyton Gollhofer battled an impressive 7-6 (8-6) match over Miami's No. 1 duo of Nelli Ponomareva and A. Shapovalova.
Carmen Blanco then put Ball State up 2-0 after beating Ponomareva in straight sets (6-3, 6-1) on the top court. Miami then took its first point of the day at the No. 5 slot but the Cardinals quickly answered to go back up 3-1 with Rosalinda Calderon's second set tiebreaking defeat versus A. Vasiukhina at the No. 6 space in the lineup.
After that, Ball State suffered setbacks on courts three and four which allowed Miami to tie the match 3-3 with only one court remaining. It would come down to Gollhofer who would then come to the resuce at the No. 2 singles position to clinch the match for the Cardinals with her three set thriller over A. Shapovalova, 6-2, 6-7 (3-7), 6-4.
The Ball State women's tennis team will close out Mid-American Conference regular season play at home when it hosts senior day Saturday against Akron with a 1 p.m. first serve at the Cardinal Creek Tennis Center, weather permitting.
