Men's Tennis Claims 5-2 Win In Mid-Week Match-Up Against IUPUI

MUNCIE, Ind. - The Ball State men's tennis team (12-9) took a break from Mid-American Conference action for a mid-week non-conference match against IUPUI (6-18) Wednesday afternoon at the Cardinal Creek Tennis Center.
Conner Andersen and Tom Carney kicked the day off with a strong 6-1 take down over the Jaguars' Kyle Whittaker and David Beasley at the No. 2 spot. Lucas Andersen and Andrew Stutz then clinched the doubles point for Ball State on the top court. The win over IUPUI's Bradley Luetschwager and Jac Newis wasn't easy for the duo as Stutz and Lucas Andersen were down 2-3 before they broke serve and went up 4-3. After that, the No. 1 twosome took the next two games and would defeat the Jaguars by a score of 6-3.
Conner Andersen played at No. 4 in the lineup today and beat Marcus Nalley in straight sets, 6-1, 6-3. Soon after that, his doubles partner Carney took a 6-1, 6-3 victory over Furhan Siddiki on court six. Ball State had a 3-1 edge over IUPUI with three courts remaining. Marko Guzina claimed the win for the Cardinals over the Jaguars after capturing a 6-2, 6-3 decision over Jose Calero at the No. 2 slot. On court one, Andrew Stutz would be the final point for Ball State with his three set thriller over Jac Newis, 4-6, 6-0, 6-3.
The Ball State men's tennis team will host its final Mid-American Conference home match of the season Friday against rival Western Michigan. First serve is scheduled to begin at 2 p.m. and will be played at the Cardinal Creek Tennis Center, weather permitting.
